Texas Joint Center for Air Quality - Environment
Jennifer Chen worked on the following three goals:
  • CenterPoint Energy tree planting project: collected, compiled and verified field data on residences involved in CenterPoint's tree planting imitative; wrote summary report describing the participating homes and planted trees.
  • Transportation control measures database: reviewed empirical data on transportation control measures available to the HGAC region and compiled them into spreadsheet format, including descriptions of each measure along with any empirical findings regarding their consequences.
  • Urban infrastructure, land use and air quality research: specifically examined the relationship between urban infrastructure and air quality, and how land use control measures may be effectively used to alter urban infrastructure and consequently improve air quality.

Valuing Nature in Texas - Social & Policy Analysis
Ruthanne Haut worked on the ‘Valuing Nature in Texas' program's Freshwater Inflows Initiative which involved work on the San Antonio Bay and Lower Rio Grande Valley. The goals included updating and completing drafts, writing papers on the health of the Bay and status of freshwater inflows and giving research support to subcontractor Bobby Richardson.

Gulf Coast CHP Application Center - Energy & Buildings Solutions
Shanshan Lin worked on the following goals: Collecting literatures, statistical data and geographical distribution data; based on collected data, doing some calculations and analysis, and completing a geographical distribution map of agricultural biomass residues in Texas; finishing a PowerPoint presentation, named "Market Opportunities for CHP in Texas Agriculture", writing an intermediate report, including detailed information on biomass energy resources, electricity and thermal loads, and biomass conversion technology assessment Texas agricultural sectors.

Lisa Welsh is working with HARC's Environment Group as an intern providing support to for various projects including the Galveston Bay Status and Trends Project and National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII).

Gulf Coast CHP Application Center - Energy & Buildings Solutions
Suzanne Zick worked on two goals: 1) research and write a series of market-specific web pages for the Gulf Coast CHP Application Center web site; and 2) develop an alternative web page design for these pages.

To accomplish these goals she researched and wrote three preliminary web pages that were sent out to experts for their feedback. Based on their comments, the pages were modified and expanded, and additional markets were added. The design phase was accomplished using web design reference books and the academic training she received in instructional design.
