This project has six tasks that are to be completed by April 2007. These tasks include a literature search, convening of two workshops of experts to review work performed, compiling a catalogue of ecological services, and identifying properly applicable valuation methodologies. The final two tasks include replacement costs and market value data collection and analysis of specific ecosystem services within the Galveston Bay Estuary System.
Nicole Ekstrom and I completed the literature search for the ecosystem services and valuation methodologies and compiled the citations into a draft annotated bibliography. We also assisted with the creation and critique of the presentation regarding this research to the first workshop participants. The first workshop was convened on July 11th, 2006 and the presentation is available on the web at: http://www.tamug.edu/CTBS/projects/ecosystem/workshop071106/.
From this workshop, a draft working catalogue of ecosystem services and valuation methodologies was created and tailored to the Galveston Bay Estuary System. This draft catalogue included input from the participating workshop experts, Dr. Ko and Dr. Merrell, Nicole and myself.
The second workshop is to be scheduled this fall. The tasks remaining include completing the literature search, data collection and analysis for the replacement costs and market values of specific ecosystem services within Galveston Bay.
I have enjoyed the research completed thus far and hope to continue assisting with this collaborative project until it is complete in April of 2007.
