Dr. Terry D. Kunz is a Senior Research Scientist at HARC. He has been at HARC over 16 years specializing as a chemical physicist with a broad background in chemistry, math, and physics. He has served as a Principal Investigator on a wide variety of projects including laser ranging and high resolution digital topographic mapping applications, testing and evaluation of chemical/biochemical-based trace detection technologies, and imaging technologies for forensic applications. Dr. Kunz is the author of more than 35 scientific papers and presentations.

Of special interest, Dr. Kunz was the co-Principal Investigator on the original HARC effort to commercialize NASA-based LIDAR technology for digital topographic mapping applications. This original commercialization effort was initiated more than 10 years ago with the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center Technology Utilization Office. Dr. Kunz was primarily responsible for the new miniaturized design of the optical system and flight testing activities. As part of the technology commercialization group, Dr. Kunz received the first ever NASA Goddard Space Flight Center's 1999 Achievement Award in the National Resources Category and a NASA Goddard Space Flight Center 1999 Government Technology Leadership Award.
