GIS/RS Research Associate

Zach Vernon is a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) / Remote Sensing (RS) Research Associate at HARC. He provides GIS/RS support for projects being investigated by Research Operations personnel, while working with the Office of Information & New Media to continually improve GIS/RS standards and practices. Zach’s primary areas of expertise include GIS analysis and cartography, the characterization of landscapes through remote sensing techniques, and web-based GIS. He is also interested in sustainable management of natural resources at large scales through landscape ecology and environmental modeling.
Zach received his B.S. in Renewable Natural Resources from Texas A&M University in 2006. He received his M.S. in Forestry from Texas A&M University in 2008, where his thesis work compared several automated land cover/use classification methods for a bottomland hardwood system using Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data, multispectral satellite imagery, and ancillary GIS data. Zach has previously worked for the Texas A&M Spatial Sciences Lab, LECG, and The Response Group. |
