2009 Interns and Scholars

In 2009 six interns worked on several HARC projects, including the Center for Fuel Cell Research and Applications, as well as their own independent projects related to HARC work.

Meaghan Berry
Information Technology and New Media
Meaghan Berry worked as a general intern for the Information Technology and New Media department. She updated and added content on various HARC project websites, as well as helping in the transfer and update of the HARC website itself.ÂWhile here, she also worked on writing an email analysis program using the C# language. The program took information from an exchange server containing details of the mailboxes and created two tables. One of these tables contained a graphical representation of the filled hard drive space on the server out of the total. The other table contained a list of all email inboxes, major statistics about the contents of them, such as number of items and average file size, and a bar comparing the total size of that mailbox to the size of the largest mailbox there is. Future extensions of this program could include an application which then emails each inbox with over a certain size reminding its user to delete emails every so often and providing methods for reducing the space utilized. Meaghan also compared different programs to analyze web logs, in an attempt to locate the most efficient and effective program for tracking site traffic statistics. Although this research did not provide a definitive choice for future use, several viable options were found.ÂMentor: GJ Snyder

Will works primarily on the Texas Climate News website. He updates the site, works on layout issues, and is working on possible overall design updates. As well, he does photography for the site that is used in feature stories.ÂMentor: Robert Harriss

Lars worked on a game called Super Energy Apocalypse and is a serious games about Sustainable energy use - and zombies! William Lear
Testing UTC Power 5kW Fuel Cell Including Data Acquisition
William Lear is responsible for day-to-day operations of fuel cell equipment, including data acquisition, operations and maintenance, and safety.
