George King
(The Woodlands, TX - January 18, 2002) George R. King of The Woodlands has been named Director of the Energy Group at the Houston Advanced Research Center.
In the position, he will be responsible for research, design, engineering and new technology application programs in support of clean and renewable energy. In addition, he will manage related programs associated with policy development and management, regulatory compliance issues and risk identification and assessment.
Mr. King brings to the position more than 25 years experience in research management and new technology assessment, especially as they relate to hydrogen fuels.
Prior to joining HARC, King served as chief engineer in Reliant Energy Power System's Fuel Cell Division. There he was involved in projects related to distributive generation and the selection process for on-site generation into a regulated utility. He also was instrumental in the development of PEM fuel cell based technology systems through the prototype phase and into the pre-production phase. In addition, he managed collaborative research projects with Texas A&M dealing with the adaptation of A&M's core catalysts and active layer technologies.
From 1976 to 1985, King worked as manager of Gas Plant Maintenance and Operations at Mitchell Energy & Development Corp. where he provided engineering support to projects related to gas processing and day-to-day operations. In 1985, Mr. King founded Engine & Compressor Systems, Inc., a private Woodlands-based company engaged in the design of "clean burning" internal combustion engines that burn a mixture of natural gas and hydrogen without loss of power to meet stringent emission standards.
King holds a B.S. degree in Industrial Technology from Texas A&M University. He also is certified by the Texas Railroad Commission in the design, service and operation of CNG systems, the operation of LP-gas systems, and the sale and installation of LP-gas motor fuel systems.
Created in 1982, the Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC) is a not-for-profit organization that promotes sustainable development through research programs in energy, life sciences and the environment.
