The objective of this project is a low cost improvement to the agricultural emission inventory using alternative and readily available information about agricultural equipment ownership. EPA NONROAD model estimates for agricultural equipment rely on national population estimates allocated to each county on the basis of a gross activity indicator of harvested acreage (unchanged in the just-released NONROAD2002 model). The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) conducts periodic in-depth surveys of agriculture operations, which may be used to provide an alternative data source or verification of the EPA method.
