Title:Estimates of Emission from Small Scale Diesel Generators
Project Period:01/12/2004 - 10/15/2004
Total Budget:$32,500
Sub-Contractors:ENVIRON - Mike Smylie ($32,500)

The purpose of this study is to estimate Nox emissions from small-scale diesel generators in the DFW area and to assess the effects from these emissions on the DFW non-attainment area. This project is an extension of a recently completed ENVIRON project for HARC, which studied the emissions from small-scale diesel generators in the Houston-Galveston Area, and the effects of these emissions on the HGA non-attainment area. This project reviews pertinent information gained from the TERC study. Based on the findings from this review the project develops a methodology to estimate population and activity data of generators found in the DFW area. Some of the potential tools for the methodology include acquiring a database for stationary diesel generators in the SFW area, building and air permit applications, and focused surveys based on SIC with emphasis on major users such as hospitals, office buildings, shopping complexes, and factories. The methodology could be based on a combination of these tools, and information gathered from some of these tools might be used for confirmation or validation only. From this, ENVIRON develops a revised NOx emission inventory that is consistent with the Texas SIP for generators found in the DFW area using the newly developed population and activity data.
