Project H056.2005
Title:Deployment of Two C-Band Radars to DFW and HGB for the 2005 Ozone Season
Project Period:06/15/2005 - 08/31/2005
Total Budget:$134,586
Sub-Contractors:Texas A&M Research Foundation - Lawrence Carey ($134,586)

This project is a top priority for TCEQ because of the need to evaluate forecast modeling performance in the 2005 ozone season and to prepare for possible use of an 8-hour ozone episode in the Dallas-Ft. Worth (DFW) and Houston-Galveston-Brazoria (HGB) non-attainment areas. Two C-Band Doppler radars, overlapping existing National Weather Service NEXRAD radars, will be deployed to provide 3-D wind fields in the boundary layer for the ozone season in 2005. The deployment of the C-band radars will also support the Northeast Texas Plume Study (NETPS) funded by TERC as part of Project H44 and the Southeast Texas Balloon Study (SETBS) of TERC Project H39. Better characterization of the wind field during the NETPS and SETBS will improve the assessment of ozone impacts of large point sources in East Texas on the DFW non-attainment area and of Houston urban and industrial plumes on East Texas.
