| Center for Fuel Cell Research and Applications |
The Center for Fuel Cell Research and Applications (CFCRA) is a program of HARC's Energy & Buildings Solutions Group. The mission of the CFCRA is to facilitate the development and market acceptance of hydrogen and fuel cell products. We work with a variety of sponsors in the public and private sectors to advance technologies from lab to market. In addition to strategic consulting, the CFCRA offers two multi-sponsor subscription programs that provide sponsors with practical technical and market information on a variety of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies and companies.
The Core Program focuses on providing sponsors with information and intelligence on fuel cell products, companies, market trends, and emerging technologies from universities, entrepreneurial companies, and national labs. The program is geared toward the needs of corporate venturing groups, venture capitalists, research and development organizations, and government agencies. The program identifies and assesses interesting technologies and companies in the fuel cell and hydrogen space. We provide a particularly useful level of information geared toward investors and corporate R&D managers. Our approach is to provide technology briefs and newsletter synthesized from the technical literature, site visits, and expert discussions. Our reports provide a strategic view of the technology arising from our in-depth knowledge of the technical background and market needs. Our reports contain more technical background and analysis than the typical press coverage, but they are still easy to read and understand.
In addition to the Core Program, the CFCRA organizes and offers Supplemental Projects to sponsors of the Core Program. Participation in Supplemental Projects is on a voluntary basis. The Supplemental Projects encompass equipment test and evaluation and focuses on later stage systems and products being marketed by developers and manufacturers. The program is geared toward the needs of early adopters, end-users, systems integrators, investors, and regulators. Through fees paid into the program, HARC acquires, tests, and evaluates the performance of fuel cell systems and hydrogen production equipment. We publish regular evaluation spreadsheets and reports highlighting positive and negative performance attributes for each system being tested. The program determines whether systems meet the manufacturer's stated performance claims.
In addition to benefits obtained in each program, sponsorship of the CFCRA is a platform by which organizations can launch additional fuel cell activities with HARC, with other sponsors, and with fuel cell manufacturers. As a research management organization, HARC facilitates the development multi-party research initiatives among sponsors.
Sponsors receive:
- Confidential briefs, reports, newsletter, and evaluations
- Annual Industry Assessment Report
- Biennial Networking Meetings
- Opportunity to nominate and participate in supplemental research projects
Note: Technical reports published for sponsors remain confidential for two years.
