Watershed Characterization of Water Quality in Double Bayou
The East and West Forks of Double Bayou are located northeast of Galveston Bay in Chambers County. This area is largely non-urbanized, with the majority of land use characterized by agricultural fields. The West Fork of Double Bayou has been listed on the 2008 303(d) list for dissolved oxygen and bacteria impairment. The East Fork of Double Bayou is a very scenic waterway often used for recreational purposes. The West Fork of Double Bayou was part of a United States Geological Survey (USGS) study, “Water Quality, Stream-Habitat, and Biological Data for Hackberry Gully, Cotton Bayou, and West Fork Double Bayou, Chambers County Texas, 2006-07”. The watershed is mainly rural, with the main constituents of concern resulting from agricultural practices. This study will establish a baseline data set and watershed characterization report, which will be necessary for any future watershed protection planning in Double Bayou.
